Alpha 3 still has bug in this part.
What happens:
Computer turns on, starts up Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Alpha 3, Show Login Screen,
starts count down for Auto Login, if no user input-it auto logs in no problem.
If interrupted, and other is choosen, it chooses the default auto login user
and still logs
This bug disappeared for a while during Lucid Lynx Alpha 1 & 2, but has
returned I noticed today. I can probably go through the different
kernels sometime and see which ones work right and which ones don't.

I'm seeing this bug in Alpha 2 as well. I set a root password, but
entering "root" as another user at login just causes the login screen to
refresh.
