I am closing this report since KNetworkManager does provide support,
however it seems it doesn't work all of the way exactly. For the "not

Now (edgy) network-manager-pptp is available. As soon as this package is
available, knetworkmanager provides an extra menu for 'VPN-Connections'.
But clicking on 'Configure VPN' doesn't do anything. Please confirm.

VPN support is there since the first version we added to kubuntu.
The point is that vpn extensions to network-manager need to be installed at the
first place and we don't currently have packages for them in the repos (feel
free to make them eventually ^_^).
