I was using ubuntu.mirror.iweb.ca as my 'best server'. Switching to
'Main Server' seems to have solved my problem.

Here's my Xorg log - I can't stay long enough in Lucid to use the
terminal to attach information, as it freezes as soon as I enter a
command.

My desktop, an emachines dual core freezes in Lucid since yesterday's
OpenOffice and other upgrades. No flashes, beeps or boops, it just
freezes. The Karmic partition is fine.
It will function for a few minutes, but always freezes when trying to
check for updates, whether with the update manager,
@Sonsum -- could you describe the freeze. Do you get flashing caps lock
lights? Are you able to login to the system over the network at all?
Also could you try booting that kernel with the kernel option
'nomodeset' and report if that changes things?
