This problem appeared here, months after installing Ubuntu 12.04.
Thunderbird 17.0. I would guess one of the updates broke it, but seeing
this issue go back to 2009-12 ... puzzled.

I am using TB 3.1.10 with a German Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. This mis-match
between header and message body occurs on my system, as well. I started
noticing it after installing the "BetterConversation" add-on and blamed
it for the errors. However, I still get this behavior after uninstalling
the add-on.
