Now the package upload worked and the package is correctly building. The
problem is finally solved.

Anyone involved in the Lucid Alpha 1 release, please avoid that Alpha 1
ships with a non-functional CUPS. Please run the command line
/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftopdf 1 1 1 1 "" in.pdf > out.pdf
with in.pdf being a arbitrary existing PDF file. If the command fails,
upload the newest version of CUPS
The fix is committed to the BZR repository of CUPS and will appear in
Lucid with the next CUPS package.

This bug also causes current cups on current Lucid (with libpoppler
0.12.2) to refuse printing anything as it was compiled with the old
version of libpoppler. It does not print because pdftopdf fails
complaining about a missing symbol:

Your build servers are out of date, please update them. Current version
of libpoppler on Lucid is 0.12.2-2.1ubuntu1, not 0.12.0-0ubuntu2. The
build failure occurs as stated with *current* Lucid... One of the
changes between 0.12.0 and 0.12.2 is the aforementioned patch.

On our build servers for Lucid, using libpoppler5_0.12.0-0ubuntu2, the
current CUPS package builds the mentioned file perfectly. On which
Ubuntu version are you? Which Poppler version are you using ("dpkg -l |
