There are two problems with the udev script (the one in 9.04):
1. It needs hdparm.conf to have the exact same device name as the one
seen by udev ([sh]d[a-z]). Using symlinks under /dev/disk is not
possible.
2. It seems to be never called for SATA drives.

Doc Nielsen - all udev does is run /lib/udev/hdparm , so it seems that
this could just be re-run as necessary.
flyinggorillaz - At least under Karmic, the rule seems to be a default
rule in /lib/udev/rules.d instead of under /etc/udev/rules.
Running Jaunty and I cannot find the udev rule file
(/etc/udev/rules.d/85-hdparm.rules) - how do I get one?

hdparm.conf is interpreted during start-up with a udev rule
(/etc/udev/rules.d/85-hdparm.rules) which calls /lib/udev/hdparm which
is reading the instruction in /etc/hdparm.conf

It's indeed not there. I don't think that this is very important
though. Needs investigation.
