After investigation of this, a patch has already been committed upstream in linux-2.6: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=31f7fd795d17b264c3c05e4a976f963012c17c68 This has been pulled into the ubuntu-lucid tree as well. I am not exactly sure how this works
