It is xfce4, but maybe the error is in one of the plugins...
I do not know a fast way to retrieve all the versions, but on synaptic it shows
4.4.2-5ubuntu2 for the window manager (xfwm4). I did not install updates on
this box yet... so it is has the same versions as the release I downloaded from
Michel, what version of Xfce do you have installed?

This just happened to me.. but the version of my box is 8.10. I just did not
want a lot of surprises from 9.04 right now...
Anyway, thanks for posting the workaround! (marking/unmarking antialiasing and
relogin)
