Before firing this upstream, i'd like to rule out if something in
kubuntu is introducing this problem for you. Would you mind picking the
failsafe X terminal session at KDM and see if you can reproduce this
problem launching mythfrontend from there?

Do you have any idea as to why MythFrontend tries to mount every
filesystem it can think of when you have the mediamonitor running?

Joachim, it's probably media monitor causing this behavior. I had same
problem and found this thread

Try disabling media monitor in your mythfrontend setup and see if that
solves the problem. It worked for me.

Have now most likely located the problem.
On my machine(s), Mythfrontend tries to mount /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc,
/dev/sdd and /dev/sde. These disks do not exist in my system.
After a time-out (around 5 minutes), the system comes alive and
responsive again.
Has anyone hardcoded /dev/sdb
