Happens to me too.
Is remedied (at least for the moment, it seems) by
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice-gnome openoffice-gtk openoffice
.org-kde
and then
$ sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-kde

Open Office file dialog hangs in Kubuntu
I am affected from this too.
I have a clean install of Kubuntu 10.10 and after editing a document for
sometime, the file dialog just hangs there.
Using the solution from comment #25 solved the problem for me. However,
this bug should be fixed because the native KDE dialog is far more
advanced and
not really solved after all. openoffice.org crashes at launch.
removing the package "openoffice.org-kde" got it back up and running.
sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-kde
that's the same workaround as karmic/lucid...

@Murz: thanks for the follow up, indeed after copy the dialog becomes
extremely sluggish (although not completely stuck?).
So, "use openoffice.org dialogs" CHECKED is the simplest workaround,

mu3en, try copy something to clipboard from current openoffice document
and try to open the dialog, and you must see the hangs.

just fine.
"use openoffice.org dialogs" is NOT checked in openoffice options.

"Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > General > Open/Save dialogs.
Whatever that is set (on/off) "
(use ooo dialog box)
