FIXED:
I removed the lightning-extension (Tools/Addons) from Thunderbird - this is
probably installed direct from Mozilla?
And replaced it with the one from the repositories and re-started Thnderbird
and all appears to be back.
Perhaps something should be added to the Ubu package to prevent this

I found it but the bug is invalid because reporter was using upstream
package. I have not updated our package yet, so i will hold off for a
while.
