Problem is Ghostscript, not SpliX. Please update your Lucid system so
that you are completely up-to-date. Then try printing again. If this
still does not help your problem can be a duplicate of bug #539708.

Briefly, me too. Some pdfs print, others fail when using Evince.
Printing from OpenOffice and Gimp is fine.
Okular, as suggested above did succeed in printing one of the problem
pdfs. lpr filename.pdf failed
Ubuntu 9.10 both 32 and 64 bit systems. Will look into this further and
attach error
I cleared out my error_log, increased the debug level per the wiki, and
tried printing again. Attached is the error_log.

Can you also follow the instructions in the "CUPS error_log" section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems, try to print from
evince again and post the error_log which you get then? Thanks.

Can you send the PDF directly to CUPS by running
lpr
in a terminal window? Or could you install "okular", open the file with
"okular" and print it from there?
