Hello,
I had exactly the same problem.
I couldn't find documentation saying where os-prober and linux-boot-
prober got their uuid.
The instructions in message #3 (thanks Felix) permitted to manually
correct grub.cfg on my copy-disk. Then, on the original disk, i ran
update-grub, which gives now
The manual change of UUID has already been done and it is working;
sudo chroot /media/Copia-Karmic64/
r...@augusto-desktop:/# update-grub
grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for /.
the update-grub doesn't work.
