Hi,
I'm experiencing some connecting issues as well and, if you don't mind,
i'll answers those questions:
1)yes, but only after installing some fixes from ppa:network-manager/trunk,
since the networkmanager from karmic CD wasn't working with my DSL connection.

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. In order to
help better determine what the problem might be, can you answer the
following questions:
1) Are you using NetworkManager?
2) Are you behind a proxy server?
3) Can you report back what the following steps report?
