ok I figured it out, make sure that you do not select the modem driver
in the hardware driver updater. I unchecked and now it works!

Strangely enough, Last.fm player recognizes the hardware and will play directly
to it (I hear music out of the speakers).
Also when I plug in my logitech usb speakers they also work (show up in the
selection box for hardware in alsa as well).
