You are right on. I remember during the installation, it said
something like: should menu.lst keep your custom setting? It was not
telling me what it was updating. So i selected keep current.
I then notice, that my kernel was older, and manually updated my
menu.list to run the new kernel. now
Please use Karmic's kernel (2.6.31) in Karmic, not Jaunty's (2.6.28).
Please notice that you're still using Jaunty's kernel. Most likely the
grub configuration (grub.cfg/menu.lst) was not properly updated.
