I was able to solve this problem by loading wicd from the package
manager. The 10.04 Network Manager still cannot access the wireless
card correctly and I've had to disable it.

My Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN worked fine under ubuntu 10.0 (after some
initial flakiness), but hasn't worked since I upgraded to 10.04 last
night. My system is an HP dv7-2270us Intel Core-2 Quad. It has the
Radio HW On/Off touch switch, but the wireless isn't recognized whether
the switch is on

I can confirm this bug - I have the same problem on a new Dell Latitude 6400
Notebook with an Intel 5100 WLAN adapter.
