It theoretically makes fullscreen applications run faster but with a
proper driver there is basically zero overhead from compositing (so
called "zero copy texture_from_pixmap") so it isn't necessary anymore
unless your driver has issues.

The blinking is a side effect of the way unredirect fullscreen windows
works. The fix is to turn off unredirect fullscreen windows.

fixable.
