Ok. I have a bunch of possibly related problems, and haven't yet managed
to sort them out.
Sometimes I get applet error messages (even after removing dropbox), and
sometimes I don't.
Sometimes opening firefox freezes the desktop, and sometimes it doesn't.

any other application under the same circumstances? My guess is you'll
have to resolve that other bug before we can debug this.
