Should be fixed in Karmic with the system-tools-backends 2.8.2 (see bug
443312). Can you confirm that it works after upgrade (else the patch
changes will have been overwritten and your system won't work again)?

i don't know how to apply patches, so i added that line manually to the file
it works like a charm now, thank you for the work

OK, I got it. The problem is that Debian platform is not listed, which
incidentally means that almost all platforms are also broken because
they depend on Debian. It's already fixed in 2.8.2 which I'd have loved
to see in Karmic. See bug 443312.

Everything fails because we try to read a file called "". I'll have a look at
that later, but you could try
