This isn't related to Samba, but to ntfs driver inside kernel.
Since Dylan reported this for a Dapper, assigning dapper kernel source.

Strange enough, after working with smbfs more than 2 months without any
problems, I got the same situation (HAL initialize errors) starting on the date
I added an ntfs partition to my fstab as well.
Which logfiles should I look at ?
