@Martin Gamache- You are correct. Fix worked.
@All- Sefan's suggestion in bug 442463 worked and this bug while not
being exactly the same responds to the same fix and subtle differences
may be related to differences in sound card circuitry. Can post Sefan's
solution as a fix for this from Bug 4424
I wonder if this is a duplicate of bugs 383385 and 442463. The solution
suggested by Sefan in 442463 worked for me.

Christen Niemeyer - It's similar but coming from my sound card and not
the mother board speaker. I have a similar sound card to the person in
this other bug so it may be specific to that chipset as the pulse
shipped with Karmic beta is working fine in the other two computers I've
booted it on.
