I found out the a work around. If you boot to live cd mode and remove
the ubiquity slide show using synaptic pm it works fine.

I am using two hard drives, 2gb ddr 1 dual channel memory, amd athlon
xp 1800+, creative sound blaster Audigy 2 sound card, I can't remember
the video card or mother board. The installer just disappeared right
were it would normally begin to wipe the hard disk. The screen I was

It might also help if you can give more information about where the
crash occurred. After all, there are a lot of screens that give
'install information'.
I would also help if you told us something about the computer you are
installing on.
