This bug is quite old, I'm running Gutsy and gkrellm 2.2.10-2ubuntu1 by
now and I can't remember when the problem occured for the last time. I
even couldn't remember that I filed this bug. :-)

I have a similar problem but with Net instead of CPU.
Gkrellm freezes for some time and then it crashes and leaves that xmessage.
$ sudo apt-cache showpkg gkrellm
