You are saying that is intended behaviour? Where did the "we won't scare
new users with cryptic terminal output" goal go?
Is there a way to at least supress the output and have a blinking
cursor? This looks terrible... :/

I was first affected by Bug 440749 on up-to-date Xubuntu Karmic
installed from the beta, but now I actually get xsplash. I do get these
messages first, though.
