I can also confirm that the equalizer does not work for .ogg files, but
does work for .mp3 files on Ubuntu 6.06.

The equalizer code is actually built into the MP3 plug-in. What I would
like to see is an Ubuntu package for this:

It's an equalizer Effect plug-in that works with all files. Works great
for me.
