Note that in Lucid the temperature is in millidegrees, not degrees, so
the 'fanon' and fanoff' thresholds need to be set accordingly.
I just go with the defaults and have
options acerhdf verbose=1 kernelmode=1
in my /etc/modprobe.d/acerhdf.conf file.
(The verbose shows you what the fan controll

'echo -n "enabled" > /sys /class/thermal/thermal_zone0/mode', you can see it if
you run:
dmesg|grep acerhdf
