I just installed the recommended updates via update-manager and enden up with an unbootable system... again. This bug ist very, very annoying, especially if you don't know how to boot the system though. If nobody is able to fix it properly, PLEASE at least don't overwrite /usr/lib/grub /grub-mkconf

Same here on a laptop. Fresh install to an empty drive. EXT4 partition. Temporary fix: Changed the line (174) in /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib to echo "", ran update-grub an grub-install /dev/sda worked until the next update of grub2 which reverted my changes :-/ -- GRUB 2 fails to find boot

I can confirm this as well ("Error: No such device... [UUID]" after choosing the entry from the grub2 boot menu). Extremely bothersome for a normal user, because he's left with an unbootable system :-( For a quick fix, I deleted the line "search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set [UUID]" from grub.cfg.

Assuming the error you are getting is something along the lines of "Error: No such device" followed by the UUID, I can confirm this issue. I can only boot my fresh Karmic RC install by editing the grub command list and removing the "search" line. Note that in my case, this is a laptop with a singl
