@Per, please could you check if this issue is still affecting you under
latest release included in Ubuntu Lucid? here works fine (no crash) but
I have to install texlive-base package for be able to view this dvi
file.

I don't think I have the exact document(s) that caused the crash anymore
since the dvi is just an intermediate file but I can attach a later
version of it where the only difference is that some of the text
contents have changed.
