Hi,
Seems I have this same bug with karmic/Rhythmbox and my Samsung YP-K3 Media
player :
"Rhythmbox opens the library on my player only if I plug it in while the
software is already running; If Rhythmbox is not running, it starts when I plug
the player in, but no MTP library is shown.
