This is a bug report. It clearly details the steps to reproduce the bug
and it seems to boil down to a permissions regression, probably due to
the removal of the "scanner" group in Karmic. Back off with the canned
responses, please.

Just tried to create the "/etc/udev/rules.d/40-basic-permissions.rules"
file and restarted udev. It did not solve the problem
