I think this is a problem caused by ibus-m17n, which behaves badly for
PinYin. That's expected, and please just don't use ibus-m17n for the
purpose of input in PinYin.

It's still an issue there. I reinstalled Karmic for testing Ibus a month
ago, with default settings, and the problem is still there. I can
confirm that the problem isn't there with Anthy (crown icon), but shows
itself with Pinyin.
Unfortunately I still haven't been able to test Lucid yet, and prob
ping Loïc
Will close this and the other ticket in about two weeks.
