The new xsplash is really pretty, but it's super jerky on my netbook,
and a little jerky on my laptop. Personally, I'd prefer to stare at a
smooth animation a second or two longer.

Yeah, seems like maybe we're competing for scheduler time with the
desktop as it's loading. Not sure what to do about it yet, but
hopefully we'll get it looking smoother.

I love the new 'spotlight' graphics! It looks terrific!, but a little jumpy.

this should fix the weird look of things. Right now everything is just
a placeholder.
