I've never used the brightness applet until I read Vladimir's comment, but I
*have* been troubled by the 2nd problem, exactly the same behaviour.
I'm using Jaunty on eee 904 (well what do you know: OS version 9.04, machine
version 904! :)).

No, it's not a bug 222171. As I've wrote fn+f5/fn+f6 controls works
perfectly, but real brightness state doesn't correspond to applet's
state.
