So to clarify: you have sound in Flash, but not in gstreamer
applications? If so, I would suggest looking in System -> Preferences ->
Sound and seeing if you can get sound in rhythmbox by using directly
using ALSA for playback. If so, you may have a problem with your
Pulseaudio configuration.
