With Linux 2.6.31-22-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP Karmic it works after
pressing special buttons on my laptop that should enable wireless card.

Can someone change the Importance of this bug so it stays on the 'radar'
for Lucid too. I will not upgrade to Lucid if that has broken wireless
for my machine. I assume other owners of this hardware will feel the
same about this.

See also Ubuntu forum that many users have been affected by the breakage
of this driver with the kernel upgrade late March 2010. Please post a
workaround or fix, e.g. in terms of downgrading kernel and related
packages, in order to be able to use wireless internet again with
BCM4312.

For me, it also stopt working after the latest kernel upgrade but worked
with the earlier kernel from Karmic. Is simply downgrading the kernel a
workaround?

In Karmic Kubuntu, BCM4312 (wireless on hp 550) does not work out the
box. System > hardwaredrivers finds two drivers for the card. The free
driver (b43) does not work. The proprietary one (wl) works, but the very
installation may freeze your box. First, kde was frozen. I tried to
restart kdm, and
