I would add a vote for having this bug closed. since it has been opened, I have
gone through at least 4 computers, and not had a problem. And of course, sway
and some Ubuntus use wayland.
I will test again in 4 months anyways, when I get my next laptop. Will file a
new bug then if needed.

Could we maybe, like, make "use xinput" be off by default? This bug is
now, what, 15 years old?

Title:
Cannot draw in xournal since 0.4.2.1-1ubu
I see a lot of strange reports here.
Just FYI: DOES NOT WORK on any modern multitouch devices.
People who report it "works" are probably (most certainly actually) using it
with regular mouse or devices that represent regular mouse.
For that reason it is not "fix released", please change it back t
The problem still exists today on xenial with xournal 0.4.8, and the
same workaround turning off xinput works as well.

I now have Xubuntu Karmic installed on a test system, and I can
confirm that I still see the problem with XInput enabled.
Xournal (Help>About) and Synaptic both confirm it's Xournal 0.4.5 (-1).
The problem appears to be hardware-specific. My test system is a very
old Dell Latitude notebook. It
Just checked mine. I upgraded yesterday to Lucid.
Didn't work a couple of days ago, works today, with Xinput off or on.
Sorry about that.

Works for me on Karmic, Xournal 0.4.5 (-1), with Xinput on or off in the menu.
If it's the same bug as the original one, difficult to see why some people
don't see it (maybe double-check your Xournal version from Help->About just to
be sure?)

I would probably agree.
To be considered fixed:
At a minimum, this option should be turned off by default, since first-time
users will not want it, and it makes the program not work at startup with
standard hardware.
At a maximum, Xinput does not work. I don't think anyone using Xournal and

I think fix was NOT released.
Just installed fresh release and the bug is still there. Although "turning off
"Use Xinput" (under Options) made the drawing tools work." (As pointed by Mike
Kupfer) solves the problem.

Does the menu work in xournal_0.4.5-1? I ran into much the same issue
with Xournal several weeks ago on OpenSolaris; turning off "Use Xinput"
(under Options) made the drawing tools work.
