Why is this considered as a duplicate of #217389? I just installed
Karmic and I'm experiencing this and I'm not using Simple Backup.

I should add that I tried cleaning up space (removed about 500mb worth
of packaged, and ran apt-get clean). Despite these efforts df still
shows 100% usage.
