Instead of changing the command line, you can choose to check both the
"Swap Byte Order" and "Write Wave Header" checkboxes.

I encountered this one as well, and was able to fix it by changing the
lame command line:
- Go to Settings > Plugins
- Find the "K3b External Audio Encoder" and click its wrench icon
- Select "Mp3 (lame)" and click "Edit..."
- Change the command to:
lame -r --big-endian -s 44.1 -m s -h --tt %t --
** Changed in: k3b (Ubuntu)

Same problem here, there is a bug in karmic and k3b - mp3 (lame)
conversion.
I tried to convert a flac audio file to mp3, k3b is reporting no errors
and a correct progress bar, but when the conversion is finished, there
is no mp3 file. If i do a ogg vorbis conversion all is correct.
