This is now fixed for real. Also closing the blender task.

The original issue - "displaced render window" is still present in
Karmic, but will be fixed once xorg-server is upgraded to 1.6.2 (which I
guess will happen soon).

Too many different problems are being itemized in this bug, some in one
version of the driver, some only in another.
I gather the original reported issue - "displaced render window" has
gone away, so I'm closing this bug as fixed. The subsequent bugs really
need their own bug reports.

On Xorg-edgers LiveCD Blender have the same behavior you describe.
Menus don't render, but work (are invisibles).
Some artifacts appear on loading cursor, Vertical lines around them on a
little box (I asume the refresh area of cursor). Like when I set

When you use the xorg-edgers PPA, it's usually best get all the packages
since there may be dependencies. For example, some fixes may need
updated libdrm2 and libdrm-intel1. Before, the way to test this with a

That was imprecise. Since KMS in on by default on my system, I get
this message when I disable it with i915.modeset=0. But then KMS is
disabled as it should be.

I also get the "Unknown command" at boot, but then KMS works.
Comment #6 at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22453
indicates that the xserver in Karmic (1.6.1.901) may not be new enough
to contain the fix for the upstream bug. The fix should be in 1.6.2 and
this is already packaged for

This looks an awful lot like this upstream bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19174
But that was supposed to be fixed in the master branches already in May,
and I thought most X-related packages had been updated in Karmic since
then.
** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #19
This seems to be related to the Direct Rendering Infrastructure (DRI). By
adding the line
Option "DRI" "false"
to the "Device" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf this went away when KMS was
disabled (i.e running UMS). Alpha-2 has UMS by default, but the default has
later been changed to KMS (see

Btw, I'm also seeing this on a Thinkpad X61 Tablet with 965GM and fully
updated Karmic. On my system the window menus have the same problem,
i.e. when I click them, the menu itself is renered relative to the
screen rather than relative to the window. Do you have this problem as
well?

Thank you for reporting this bug in the development version of ubuntu.
Could you run `apport-collect 400920` which will upload a bunch of
information about your system? If that fails, at least upload the output
