You missed the point, the samba server does not need to be a local
installation, it isn't in my case either. And to access a remote folder
might not be the first thing you do as a average private user, but as an
average business user you do. And remote folder access support is a
default install fe
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

the specific steps you describe are not really specific or clear, could you
have clear items, ie
* open a smb location
* use the add bookmark entry
* open the bookmark
get an error

It takes a samba-server and an ubuntu client, that has a bookmark pointing to
"smb://yourserver/"
