I can not reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 9.10 with the file you
provided. Therefore I am closing the bug. If you still experience this
with Ubuntu 9.10, please reopen this bug and make sure you leave a
comment at the upstream bug at

the new comment is probably bug #444962 and a totally different issue
fixed now

I would like to confirm this too. I am on Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5. The
thumbnail seems to take super-long time to create.
I am not 100% sure but I think the issue seems to just occurs in A5 as I
don't seems to recall having problem in A4.

Sorry, I should have added that my problem does not have to do with
downloaded files. I just created some pdf, dvi, ps, and rtf fiules with
Lyx and no thumbnails were created.

Using gconf-editor, the entry for
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/applicat...@pdf has no keys. This is also
true for any other thumbnailer for pdf, postscript, or dvi. These file-
types are also not creating thumnails for me. Is the lack of gconf keys
the problem?
I'm using an up to date Karmic tha
9.10 confirmed with 100's of PDF files

I'm not confirming the issue, after the download the icon change to busy
cursor one for a few second and then the frontpage from the pdf is
displayed as thumbnail correctly there
