I did some further testing with kjsaylor's modifications. It looks like
the only line needed is:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
I also was able to leave the System->Preferences->Sound options as
"Auto" (i.e. no modifications from the default after a fresh install)

I was able to get sound working on my XT2. I added the following lines
to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
Then under System->Preferences->Sound I sel
I just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck in getting sound to work
with the Dell Latitiude XT2 yet. Here's a link to the ALSA info script
