I think this it not a bug itself. When the Sony Ericsson MD300 is
inserted, its not recognized as a 3g modem, just as a block devide. To
make it to work i need to create the file
/etc/udev/rules.d/50-md300modem.ru

Sorry, I didn't had time to do a fresh install to test, but with my
current computer, the modem still not working without the proper udev
rules - the modem still not recognized as a modem device, just a USB disk.
I think the package reponsable for this detection is modemmanager, but
I'm not sure
