I can confirm this bug. This is the syslog entry:

When closing a chat window it first hangs and then eventually crashes.

Some more info:
It happens with all protocols. At first the inner chat window closes,
but the container window doesn't. As soon as I interact with the empty
container window, Pidgin crashes.
