Hi Marc,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.
If it remains an issue,

I have this problem on an ASUS G71. I'm convinced that it is a wireless
issue, because if I disable the wireless using the switch on the side of
the laptop, everything is rock solid. Enable the wireless and the laptop

Does anyone know if upgrading to the latest kernel would help?
I'm having the same problem on a Vaio Z750. It's a 64 bit, dual core

days). It locks up and and the leds flash. I can't do anything, even

Marc,
sorry for answering late. To compile the Kernel for Jaunty follow the
advice on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=311158 (Master Kernel
Thread) and replace all occurence of string 2.6.29 by 2.6.27.
I'm now 10 days without any freeze (even under absolute heavy load)!
Good luck

System froze again, but took some serious beating before it died. Sure
enough it froze when I left tty1, so I do not have a picture of the
kernel panic.
Attached you will find the last words of the kernel. The kernel talked
about problems with "iwlagn" and the microcode.

I stress-tested my system with the external WiFi adapter for nearly 24
hours now, transferred some 6 GiB via WiFi. Listened to Shoutcast radio

Copied disk images from local systems. Jaunty is rock-solid. So I think

Gerhard,
I would like to test a 2.6.27 kernel to add information to the bug.
Being relatively new to Ubuntu, could you please point me to a
documentation about downgrading the kernel? Will I have to compile a
"vanilla" kernel to do so?
Thank you,
Marc

I've also added my daemon log as it seemed that there may be something
of interest in there. Also please realize that I was disabling and re-

This is my experience as well. Ubuntu Studio x64 Jaunty -- Fresh

I'll add that my network is wired. Disabling networking stabilizes the
