I'm having similar issue on my WD disk -- hddtemp /dev/sda /dev/sda: WDC WD3200BEKT-60V5T1: 55°C -- The temperature in Ubuntu varies between 51°C to 55°C when power supply is ON to laptop. The temperature decreases to 44°C while running on battery.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve Ubuntu. As you note, reverting to acpi-support 0.114 lowers the HD temp, but brings excessive load cycles instead. These are not unrelated; the higher HD temp is a direct consequence of elimitating the excessive parking proble
