The point release is shown after the # sign as is shown here in 'uname -a'

Here the user is running 2.6.28-12.43 this should always be shown

ok here is more info.
when trying to shut down you get 4 system beeps and you get caught up on the
system halt message. However i did clean install of jaunty same hard disk same
PC did not do updates.
linux-generic= 2.6.28-11.14

Sorry if i sound harsh i dont mean to its just this bug is really
getting to me. It was working fine until i installed packages (100+) and
not sure what ones they were.

I thought that maybe usb-creator caused this but i removed purged it and
still happens.

It seems the [*] changes every shutdown. this is getting weird i looked in
/var/log/kern.log and /var/log/syslog
I see some of the numbers but none that im getting AFAICS
