I have also had this bug for some time. I have the 180 nvidia driver
and compiz running on Ubuntu 9.04. Dual monitors too.
Symptoms are, screens flicker then go black. Keyboard is unresponsive
but sometimes mouse will still move.

Bugs,
I have the same kid of problem, display flickers briefly, loses
brightness and then sometimes its fine but others the whole system
crashes and goes back to the login screen as if Ive just booted up... I
dont seem to be able find a solution to the problem, I think the actual
crash is caused by java
