Hope this info helps somebody later on...before giving up disconnect
every USB device
Test installation again, if it works update / patch OS then start
connecting USB devices one by one, reboot and keep doing until you find
what USB device is the culprit

As weird as it may sound, the problem was caused by my HP LaserJet 1020
printer. After unplugging it from my PC, there's no more problems; no
freezing, no text mode boot messages, just a normal, blazing fast boot
sequence. So mamamel, if you still have that problem, try unplugging
anything USB othe
At the GDM login screen, the wireless keyboard and mouse that came with
the computer don't respond for approximately 75 seconds, no matter which
USB port I try connecting the receiver. Then they respond again, and
things go smoothly. During these 75 seconds, my other (wired) USB mouse
works fine. M

difference is that in my case, my machine doesn't exactly freeze during
boot, although at first sight, it certainly seems like it. After a
while, and several error messages, the boot completes, and the login
screen (GDM) shows u

Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough
information.
Next time this happens, can you switch to a text console by hitting
CTRL + ALT + F1, login there, and then run
sudo appo
Nope, no bluetooth device.same as when I had 8.10 and 8.04 installed
